Fred Kiekhaefer™, the former president of Mercury Racing®, designed this commemorative art celebrating one of the greatest transformations in offshore racing propulsion since his father, Carl Kiekhaefer™ introduced MerCruiser® sterndrives to offshore racing in the 1960’s. The MerCruiser #6 stern drive was first designed and produced by Fred Kiekhaefer and his company, Kiekhaefer Aeromarine. In 1988, Don Johnson leased Tom Gentry's Scarab equipped with the brand new Stern Drives by Kiekhaefer to compete in the Superboat World Championships in Key West.  The boat placed second in all three races, winning the Championship on points and proving the reliability and performance of the Stern Drives by Kiekhaefer.  In 1989, Stern Drives by Kiekhaefer™ pushed the Apache 47' Little Caesars Pizza to a World Championship.  In 1990, these drives were renamed to MerCruiser #6's.  Apache Powerboats has partnered with Fred Kiekhaefer™ to release this commemorative art print, the first public release of Kiekhaefer™ Artwork. © Fred Kiekhaefer 2020
